The Herbert River Improvement Trust was established to mitigate flooding for both urban and rural communities in the Hinchinbrook Shire, protect and improve the condition of the rivers in the area, repair flood damage, prevent future flood damage, and protect State, Local Government and sugar industry infrastructure and the environment.
